I truly believe that all art is about obsession.
…so I found my obsession in popular culture, storytelling, the iconography of contemporary history and reflecting on our current society.
Cool car boot finds and the absurd placement of cartoon characters in retro settings emerged as an interesting comment on the environment, technology and our urge to redesign nature. This is a hint of escapism (as found in the digital world of gaming, cartoons and superheroes), 2020’s lessons of relearning, rehashing and repackaging life and the wish that we could simply reboot everything.
As an ex city dweller, I expressed the emotional isolation and trapped creativity of city living where movement and authentic artistic energy are sometimes an enormous challenge from which to break free. The feeling of living in a bubble, but looking out at a beautiful world, is increasingly difficult to navigate.
