Louis ströh van der Walt

Louis ströh van der Walt

Louis describes his work as expressive impressions of what he sees, using his surroundings as a vantage point to obtain information. He has developed an expert understanding of spatial composition, using contrasts of value and colour to create vast landscapes that exhibit a sense of serenity, while urging the viewer to look to the road ahead. The visual advantage of light passing through cloud cover captures a dramatic atmosphere.

Louis studied Fine Art through the University of Stellenbosch where he received the Maggie Laubser Bursary for painting in 1993. He also studied History of art through Unisa and received a diploma for higher education from N.P.K, Pretoria. His work has been included in the collections of SANAVA – Jean Welz Gallery Worcester, Spier Stellenbosch, Sun International, Nandos UK, Special Forces Headquarters Pretoria, the Dutch Reformed Church Head Office Pretoria and Mooifontein Reformed Church Kempton Park, as well as private collections in SA, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Denmark and China.
